Service Families

At Alverstoke Infant School we offer additional support for children whose parents are in the armed forces as we recognise that their school experience can be different from their civilian peers. Families can be posted several times over a child’s school life and this can mean a massive change for the child and family. Children can be affected when a parent is deployed for a length of time.

In order to support families and children Mrs McEwan is available to help with any anxieties or questions. She runs a Service club that is held half-termly and offers a range of fun activities and a chance for children to be together with other children with the same life experiences as themselves. She may also run parent coffee meetings so parents can socialise and share any information or ask questions.

The Naval Carrier Strike Group are currently on an extended deployment with 14 of our families affected.  We are keeping in contact with our deployed parents via e-mail and enjoying hearing about where they are travelling to with their mini monsters.  Mrs McEwan meets with this group of children every Wednesday morning for a catch up.  We are learning lots about the geography of our world by tracking where our parents are travelling to.
